Asante Kotoko will officially release midfielder, Rashid Nortey after a disastrous stint in Kumasi.
The 28-year-old joined the Porcupine Warriors from Medeama SC in August 2023, but injuries and a drastic decline in form meant that he failed to replicate his impressive performances in the Ghanaian top flight.
After a miserable run in the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko has decided to cut ties with Nortey, announcing that they will release him from his contract through mutual agreement.
This move is part of a larger squad overhaul, as the club has already released 18 players to make way for new additions ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Nortey’s departure is a significant blow to Kotoko, who had high hopes for the midfielder when they signed him. However, his struggles on the pitch meant that he failed to live up to expectations.
The former Black Stars midfielder failed to make a single appearance for the club in the just-ended season after he was deemed not part of Ogum’s plans.
The former Medeama SC star will now look to rebuild his career elsewhere, while Kotoko will hope that their new signings can bring success to the club in the coming season.
