Danlad Ibrahim opens upFormer Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has opened up about his surprise departure from the club, revealing that he lost his number one spot to Frederick Asare during the just-concluded campaign.

In an interview with 3 Sports, Danlad revealed that he lost his position after returning from the CHAN tournament, making only 13 appearances for the Kumasi-based club.

“I remember I started losing that position when I came from the CHAN tournament. I didn’t see it coming, truly,” he told 3 Sports.”But that is life. Normally, things will happen without your notice.

It is part of the job. Everybody came to Asante Kotoko to work. We all came to make Asante Kotoko greater so if my colleague will play and we will win why not. For me it was normal and it is part of life.”All my national teams that I have played.

Normally I meet a lot of goalkeepers but before the start of the tournament I will be number.”The Ghana youth international, who has played for the Black Stars and represented Ghana at various youth levels, is currently a free agent and has attracted interest from Hearts of Oak.

Danlad joined Asante Kotoko in the 2016-17 season and made significant contributions to the team, winning several accolades including the Ghana Premier League in the 2021-22 season, the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, and the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in 2020.

Despite his individual honors, including being named Golden Glove at both the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in 2020 and the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, as well as Ghana Football Awards Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021, Danlad’s departure from Asante Kotoko marks a new chapter in his career.
