Veteran Ghanaian tactician, Coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has warned Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko following their major squad overhaul.
After a disappointing season, the 2021/22 GPL champions parted ways with 21 players and are expected to make 14 additions, according to reports.
In an interview with Accra-based Mothers FM, the former Liberty Professionals trainer expressed his concern about Kotoko’s squad overhaul, stating that it will affect the club in the 2024/25 campaign.
“It will affect the team. They’ve been sacking players every season. Where is the stability? Ogum sacked eleven players when he came and brought another eleven but they struggled. We have to keep some old players. We know how players are. We don’t go out and describe them as politicians when they are wrong. It is how you manage the team.
“For example, Amankona was bought from Chelsea to Kotoko because of his scoring prowess but he returned to Berekum to win the golden boot. It means there is something basically wrong with Asante Kotoko. They will go to relegation if they don’t take care,” said Coach J.E Sarpong.
The Porcupine Warriors are currently working to bring in new face as they hope to beef up their squad for next season.
The team has started preseason with a game in hand against arch rivals Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup to be held at a later date.
