Calls for squad overhaul at Accra Hearts of Oak continue following the team’s defeat to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko Sporting Club on Wednesday evening.
The Phobians lost the maiden edition of the Democracy Cup to the Porcupine Warriors after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The defeat leaves them winless in their last three Super Clash games against Asante Kotoko, having lost back-to-back in the Ghana Premier League last season.
Following Wednesday’s defeat, speculations has it that the 2020/21 Ghanaian champions will to part ways with underperforming players as they aim to build a stronger team for the upcoming season.
The Phobians struggled throughout the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season and narrowly avoided relegation on the final day by beating Bechem United 3-2 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour, finishing 14 with 45 points.
Emmanuel Agyemang Badu had this to say whiles reacting to team’s abysmal performance after the Democracy Cup.
“I’m not a fan of overhauling because it is hard to rebuild a team. The coach only knows the positions they lack but the team is not bad. They just need a playmaker and a sharp striker. They should turn their focus to the goalkeeping side too but so far so good I think the team is not that bad. They can build on this. You have to get some quality players always as a team especially at the bench,” he told Ghanasportspage.
“Hearts and Kotoko will always need the quality. The team is not that bad. They have a team and if they keep training and build on it they will have a solid team next season,” he added.
