Augsburg center-back Patric Pfeiffer has officially finalized his switch of national allegiance from Germany to Ghana, declaring his readiness to join the Black Stars squad.
The 24-year-old’s decision, initially announced by the Ghana Football Association two years ago alongside four other players, was delayed due to procedural issues, but he has now completed the necessary steps to become eligible for selection.
Speaking from Augsburg’s pre-season camp in Mpumalanga, South Africa, Pfeiffer expressed his optimism about receiving a call-up in September.
“A few weeks ago I was in Ghana and now I have my passport,” he said. “I hope in September I can get a call-up. I know the coach, Otto Addo because he was the coach of Hamburg in the youth team [where I played]. I have good contacts with him. I wanted to join the Black Stars before but I didn’t have my passport, but now it’s done and I’m ready.”
Pfeiffer, who made eleven Bundesliga appearances last season despite injury setbacks, emphasized his Ghanaian heritage despite being born and raised in Germany. “Yes, of course, because this is my motherland, I love Ghana, I love the people, I love the vibe, I love the food,” he affirmed.
The defender’s decision to switch allegiance is a significant boost for the Black Stars ahead of the upcoming international break.
