Hearts of Oak, Ghana’s most successful football club, are reportedly interested in signing Azam FC outcast Abdulai Iddrisu as a solution to their goalkeeping woes ahead of the new season.
According to Mo Shaban, the Phobians have already begun negotiations with the 27-year-old goalkeeper, who was recently released by the Tanzanian giants due to lack of playing time.
Iddrisu had a stint with Azam FC in East Africa, but his time was marred by injuries and limited playing opportunities. Prior to joining the Tanzanian club, he had a successful spell with Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League, where he was adjudged the league’s best goalkeeper in the 2021/22 season.
In his last season with Bechem United, he made an impressive 18 clean sheets in 31 games and was instrumental in the team’s run to the MTN FA Cup final in 2022.
Reports suggest that Iddrisu has already started training with Hearts of Oak at their Pobiman base, in a bid to seal the deal. The news is seen as a major coup for the Phobians, who have been searching for a reliable goalkeeper to solve their goalkeeping woes.
Iddrisu’s impressive form and experience in the Ghana Premier League make him an attractive target for Hearts of Oak. With his return to Ghana, he will be looking to regain his form and help the Phobians achieve success in the upcoming season.
The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, pending agreement on personal terms and other logistical arrangements.
If successful, Iddrisu will join a list of high-profile signings made by Hearts of Oak in recent times, as they look to build a strong squad for the new season.
