Hearts of Oak have parted ways with three of their goalkeepers, Richard Attah, Richmond Ayi, and Eric Ofori Antwi, ahead of the start of the new season.
The confirmation came from head coach Aboubakar Ouattara at a press conference on Thursday, putting an end to speculation that had been circulating since the team’s recent match against arch-rivals Kotoko in the Democracy Cup.
Ouattara stated, “Those players (Richard Attah, Richmond Ayi, and Eric Ofori Antwi) are no more with us.”
The news comes as a surprise to fans, as Attah and Ayi had been instrumental in the team’s recent success. Attah joined the club in 2020 from Elmina Sharks and played a crucial role in the team’s domestic treble triumph in the 2020/21 season.
Ayi, who signed with Hearts of Oak in 2019 from WAFA, was also a key player in that campaign.
Eric Ofori Antwi, who joined the team last summer, struggled with injuries and was unable to make a significant impact.
The club is now looking to bring in new goalkeepers to replace the departed trio.
The club has already signed Benjamin Asare from Great Olympics on a two-year deal.
