Former FC Samartex and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Richard Baidoo has made a shocking revelation that he held talks with officials from Liberia to switch his nationality from Ghana.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who has a Ghanaian father and a Liberian mother, has been eligible to play for either country.
The news of his potential nationality switch sparked speculation in 2023, with reports suggesting that he had decided to represent the Liberian national team, the Lone Stars. This speculation was fueled by a post on his official Facebook page.
However, in an exclusive interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Baidoo revealed that he indeed had talks with officials from Liberia but ultimately decided not to pursue the switch.
“I had a call to naturalize for Liberia since my mom’s root is from there. We had many talks, but I didn’t give in, I didn’t go far with them because I see myself as a Ghanaian”
Baidoo, who also played for Hearts of Oak, has always been proud of his Ghanaian heritage and has represented the country at various levels. His decision not to pursue the nationality switch suggests that his loyalty remains with Ghana.
The former Karela United goalkeeper is currently a free agent after ending his stint with Ghana Premier League champions, FC Samartex.
