Former Ghana Premier League player Caleb Amankwah has confessed his deep-rooted support for Asante Kotoko, despite his previous stint with their arch-rivals, Hearts of Oak.
In an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Amankwah shared his long-standing admiration for Kotoko, admitting he had always dreamed of playing for the club. Although he tried to join Kotoko during his career in Ghana, the transfer never materialized, leading him to sign with Hearts of Oak.
Amankwah, who currently plays for Ethiopian Commercial Bank FC, had a notable tenure with Hearts of Oak, making 63 appearances in the Ghana Premier League after joining from Aduana Stars in March 2021. However, following the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2022-23 season, he parted ways with the Phobians due to unmet demands.
“I have been a Kotoko fan since I was young, and it was always my dream to play for the club. I prayed to God to help me play for the top teams in Ghana, and whenever my contracts ended, these clubs would approach me.
“After finishing my contract at WAFA, both Hearts and Kotoko showed interest, but my representatives weren’t satisfied with the terms from either side, so I ended up at Aduana.
“Following my time at Aduana, Kotoko and Hearts came calling again, but I ended up joining Hearts. Despite that, I remain a die-hard Kotoko fan because I’ve been following their matches since childhood.”
“I used to watch their games and admire the players, thinking that when I get the chance to play for them, I would also impress and earn the support of the fans. Kotoko is a club I truly love and support.” Caleb told Ghanasportspage.com
With a record 24 Ghana Premier League titles, Kotoko is the most successful club in the league’s history, holding five more championships than their closest rivals, Hearts of Oak.
