Medeama SC’s new signing, Francis Andy Kumi, has confidently stated that his new team’s players are superior to those of Asante Kotoko, despite not receiving the same level of attention.
The former Asante Kotoko striker, who opted to join Medeama over Hearts of Oak, signed a two-year contract with the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions. Kumi is expected to play a pivotal role in Medeama’s quest for success this season.
Speaking about his new team, Kumi praised the depth and talent within the squad, suggesting that Medeama’s players are not getting the recognition they deserve compared to their Kotoko counterparts.
“I’ve already said it—when you look at the current players at Medeama, it’s the hype that they are not getting but I can confidently tell you that they are better than the players at Kotoko. This is the gospel truth. Kotoko is making signings, but what I’m telling you is the reality. When I first watched Kotoko’s preseason training, I was impressed by their play. They have a good team with a lot of talent; but they are just about the hype,” Kumi stated.
Medeama, who were unable to defend their league title last season, are now focused on the 2024/25 campaign, which is set to begin in September.
Kumi, who scored nine goals for Kotoku Royals in the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League season before moving to Serbian side FK Radniki Nis, returns to the Ghana Premier League as a free agent. Despite Kotoku Royals’ relegation, Kumi’s standout performances made him the club’s top scorer.
After a brief stint with OFK Vrsac in Serbia, Kumi is back in Ghana and ready to contribute to Medeama’s success. His experience and goal-scoring ability are expected to be valuable assets for the Yellow and Mauve in the upcoming season.
