Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah continues to impress with the Falcons of Jediane, securing a crucial 1-0 victory over Niger in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The win, marked by Abobaker Mamoun Eisa’s decisive goal in the 51st minute, positions Sudan at the top of Group F, at least for the next 24 hours, pending the outcome of the Ghana vs. Angola clash on Thursday.
This victory not only boosts Sudan’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, after missing out on the previous edition in Ivory Coast, but also underscores Kwesi Appiah’s strong start with the team. Under his leadership, Sudan has shown resilience and determination, aiming to make a significant impact after their early exit in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Kwesi Appiah, a veteran tactician and former Ghana coach, has maintained an unbeaten record in competitive matches since taking charge of Sudan. In the last five competitive games, he has led the team to four wins—three of which were in World Cup qualifiers—and one draw, demonstrating his positive influence on the squad.
As Sudan prepares for their next qualifier against Angola, Appiah’s focus will also inevitably shift to a highly anticipated encounter with his former side, the Black Stars of Ghana.
