Asante Kotoko are contemplating adopting the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi as their new home venue for the 2024/25 season.
This potential move comes in response to the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) decision to close the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for renovations for one month.
The closure follows Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Angola in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which marked the end of a 24-year unbeaten streak at the stadium.
The condition of the pitch at Baba Yara has faced significant criticism, with many attributing the Black Stars’ loss to the poor playing surface.
As a result, Kotoko is exploring the option of relocating to the Len Clay Stadium, which will impact their scheduled home fixtures. The Porcupine Warriors were set to host Nsoatreman FC and Young Apostles in consecutive home games during matchdays 2 and 3 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. However, they will now need to find an alternative venue due to the closure.
The club is in advanced discussions with Anglogold Ashanti regarding the relocation and has been actively inspecting the facilities. Approval from the Ghana Football Association is still pending.
