Abubakar Outarra of Hearts claims the club is being pegged back by a new breed of supporters who only insult the players and officials of the club instead of supporting the club.
The Ivorian has been blunt with the supporters of the club and seemingly laid the blame at their doors for also not doing their part to help the club.
Hearts continued their poor performance from last season ,losing this season’s league opener against New entrants Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium of all places. The fans went wild verbally attacking the team bus and chased the car taking the coach out of the stadium.
Some unprintable words were used on the team and the coach thinks it affects the team negatively, calling on the supporters to put a stop to it as they ready themselves to play Heart of Lions this weekend.
“We have a plan to play the game ,when we conceded a goal(against Basake), one or two players forgot themselves in a rush, that’s why one player and Afranie, quickly I made two changes and the intensity came back. We lost the important thing in football, that’s the goal”
“The determination and energy is there and if you see the determination at training grounds, the way they are focused, everything is perfect, but it’s like that, that’s why all the teams in the world are training everyday, every team is not perfect”.
“I understand the reaction of the fans, I understand. If somebody doesn’t love you,he can’t criticise you. It’s normal if the people at hearts of Oak talk when we lose a match, the people can talk.
The only thing I regret is the insults, the criticism is normal, they criticize like omo aany3 adie3 ,coach no way3 bad selection, all these things are part of the game, but insulting players and coaches can’t resolve anything. For positive criticism I’ll take it and focus but the insults , public insults are not good.
But criticise that “team no and coaches no asa no problem ,y3mpam coach no ,no problem but insulting and using private (things/parts not cool)”.
“Hearts of Oak is not a club but an institution and that institution everybody is inside and anything can happen in football. We have 34 matches and we’ve played one,the end of the league is what matters to us. Apart from God nobody is perfect.
We have our own problems and are affecting us including injuries, Kwabena Boateng ,Afranie,Hamza etc, the players are determined to play the game,we need the fans to shout and support us ,we play for them,we see them suffering when we lose with some of them crying .I have confidence in the team and I know this team can deliver.
The important thing is the goal though,Sometimes we win but the game is not good and sometimes we lose the game is good , we need the players,we need the followers to support the team”,pleaded the Ivorian coach who is a Baole,an Akan speaking people in Cote d’Ivoire.
