The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Benjamin Kessie, has led the Tarkwa community in dismissing officials from the National Sports Authority (NSA) from the TNA Stadium due to dissatisfaction with the facility’s management.
Citing neglect and poor oversight by the NSA, the community, under Kessie’s leadership, resolved to take direct control of the stadium. In response, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was formed to oversee the stadium’s daily operations and ensure proper maintenance.
The IMC, consisting of representatives from various stakeholders in Tarkwa, will work closely with local authorities to maintain the stadium and restore it to standards suitable for sporting events and community activities. The committee’s objective is to ensure the facility remains a vital hub for sports, social, and cultural events in the area.
Hon. Kessie emphasized the importance of the TNA Stadium to the Tarkwa community, stating, “We cannot allow our stadium to fall into disrepair, especially when it plays such a vital role in the life of our community. This decision is in the best interest of Tarkwa.
”While the NSA has yet to officially respond to the community’s decision, the situation has sparked national discussions about the management of sports infrastructure in Ghana.
Community leaders hope this intervention will set a precedent for improved oversight and accountability in managing public sports facilities across the country.
The Interim Management Committee will begin its work immediately, aiming to restore the TNA Stadium to a standard that the Tarkwa community can take pride in.
