The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a 48-hour deadline for Ghana to select a venue for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.
The deadline ends after today, and if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports fail to finalize and submit a venue, CAF will select an alternative venue for the match.
This critical decision comes following the CAF’s withdrawal of the license of the various stadiums in the country from hosting international football matches.
The Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium have all been rejected and haven’t hosted the Black Stars for over a year now and now Baba Yara Stadium- which has been the main venue has also been shut down for maintenance following CAF’s directive.
The GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have worked to identify a suitable venue that meets CAF’s standards for the qualifier scheduled for October. Failure to meet this deadline could result in CAF’s intervention.
The upcoming match against Sudan is crucial given Ghana has just one point after two games in the qualifiers. The Black Stars lost to Angola in Kumasi and failed to beat Niger leaving them in a desperate position.
Coach Otto Addo and his charges have to secure back-to-back wins against Sudan to lift themselves from the third spot and into the qualification spot.
