Asante Kotoko midfielder Sherif Mohammed has confirmed his departure from the club following their decision not to renew his contract after three years of service. Mohammed, who joined the Porcupine Warriors from lower-tier side Steadfast FC, took to social media to express his gratitude and reflect on his time with the club.
“I’m grateful to Asante Kotoko SC, its management, coaches, players, and fans for three incredible years with this great club. As my contract ends today, I reflect on the unforgettable memories, experiences, and growth. I wish the club the best this season.Cheers!!!” Mohammed wrote.
However, reports from Ghanasportspage.com have shed light on the reasons behind the club’s decision not to extend his stay.
During contract renewal talks, the 22-year-old reportedly requested a salary increase from GHS 3,000 to GHS 6,000, while the club offered GHS 4,000. The failure to bridge the gap led to the breakdown in negotiations.
Mohammed was a key player for Asante Kotoko until a motor accident before the second half of the 2023/24 season sidelined him for several months.
During his three-year stint with the club, he made 61 appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
