Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member, James Kwasi Appiah, is expected to temporarily step down from his role as the head coach of Sudan’s Men’s National Football Team ahead of Ghana’s pivotal 2025 AFCON qualification matches against Sudan on October 10 and October 14.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Appiah’s dual role as both a GFA council member and Sudan’s coach has raised concerns over a “conflict of interest,” violating FIFA and CAF regulations. In a letter addressed to Appiah, CAF has directed him to step down from one of his positions—most likely his coaching role with Sudan—until after the AFCON qualifiers. Sudan currently sits second in Group F with three points, while Ghana is third with one point, following a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger.
Ghana will host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, after CAF approved the venue despite Ghana’s struggles to secure a stadium meeting Category 3 standards for the fixture. Scroll down to read full details of CAF’s letter to Kwasi Appiah.
