Jordan Ayew and Lawrence Ati Zigi had to be restrained by their teammates following a near-altercation after Ghana’s disappointing loss to Sudan.

The two players were seen in a heated exchange at the end of the match, necessitating intervention from their fellow teammates to prevent the situation from escalating.

Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) took a significant hit with a 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday.Otto Addo’s squad had drawn with the Falcons of Jediane last Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium, a match where they squandered multiple opportunities to score.

Despite being slight favorites heading into the rematch, the Black Stars were caught off guard by their opponents at a neutral venue in Libya.Second-half goals from Ahmed Hamed Mohamed and Mohamed Abdelrahman Yagoub sealed an important victory for Sudan.

Addo made a single change from the team that faced the Falcons previously, with Inaki Williams coming in for Ayew.Ati Zigi started the match but was left frustrated after conceding two goals due to defensive lapses.

Ayew came on in the second half but was unable to make an impact, as Ghana managed just one shot on target throughout the game. While the exact cause of the confrontation between Ayew and Ati Zigi remains unclear, both players appeared visibly exasperated at the final whistle, as captured in a viral video.

Meanwhile, Ghana now faces the risk of missing out on AFCON qualification for the first time since 2004 after this damaging loss to Sudan.

The Black Stars are still winless in their qualifying group, having earned only two points from four matches, trailing both Sudan and Angola by five and ten points, respectively.
