Asante Kotoko SC is poised to return to their home base at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, following the completion of renovations that had previously closed the stadium for international football.

This development comes as the Porcupine Warriors continue to navigate the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, where they’ve adopted Obuasi’s Len Clay Stadium for home matches, winning three of their first four games at the alternative venue.

The stadium closure resulted from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deeming Baba Yara Stadium unfit for international fixtures, citing the poor state of the pitch.

This judgment impacted not only Kotoko but also Ghana’s national team, forcing a relocation of the Black Stars’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan to Accra.

With the stadium undergoing significant refurbishments to meet CAF’s standards, Kotoko temporarily shifted their home matches to Obuasi, incurring additional costs. According to close sources, Ghanasportspage.com can confirm that Kotoko’s management and the National Sports Authority (NSA) have already reached an agreement, pending final clearance, that will see Kotoko resume play at the revamped Baba Yara Stadium.

The club sees the return as not only an opportunity to play on familiar grounds but also as a measure to reduce operational expenses associated with their current arrangements in Obuasi. While using Len Clay Stadium, Kotoko has had to shoulder additional costs for travel, fuel, and accommodations, adding pressure to their operational budget.

The return to Baba Yara Stadium is expected to boost Kotoko’s campaign, with fans in Kumasi eager to see the team in action on their home turf once again.
