Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan has raised concerns over the recent performance of Kotoko captain and Black Stars goalkeeper Frederick Asare, urging him to approach his role with greater seriousness.
Alhassan’s remarks come after Asare faced criticism for his performance in Kotoko’s recent 3-1 loss to Legon Cities in a Ghana Premier League match held at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Alhassan underscored the importance of Asare improving his focus and competitiveness to retain his starting position, especially with teammate Mohammed Camara vying for the number one spot.
“Frederick Asare should be serious,” Alhassan said. “He needs to remember that if Camara takes his place, regaining it could be very challenging. Asare is a skilled goalkeeper, but he must be cautious, as Camara is equally capable.”
Alhassan added that if Camara were Ghanaian, he would likely be a candidate for the national team, a testament to his strong abilities.
Despite the setback, Asante Kotoko holds the second spot in the Ghana Premier League standings. They are set to face Heart of Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, where Asare may have an opportunity to regain his form.
