Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has reflected on the challenging journey to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), emphasizing the competitive nature of the qualifiers.
In an interview with Sir Martin, following Sudan’s qualification for next year’s tournament in Morocco, Appiah highlighted the strength of the teams in Group F, which included Angola, Ghana, and Niger.“For the qualifiers, every match is difficult.
The teams involved (Angola, Ghana, Niger, and Sudan) are all strong, and I always say that in this modern world, we can never underrate anyone because everyone knows how to play the ball.
Every single match was difficult, but that said, it was by God’s grace that we were able to qualify,” Appiah told Ghanasportspage.com in an interview. Sudan secured their place in the tournament after a crucial goalless draw against Angola in the final group match.
The Falcons of Jediane finished second in Group F with eight points, joining group leaders Angola in booking their tickets to Morocco.
This achievement is particularly significant given the ongoing political instability in Sudan, which forced the national team to play all their home matches on neutral grounds.
Appiah, who took over as Sudan’s head coach earlier this year, has been praised for his leadership in guiding the team through such adversity.
Sudan’s qualification also marks a return to the continental stage after missing out on recent tournaments.
The team, which won their only AFCON title in 1970, is aiming to make a strong impression in Morocco.
