Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has shared his enthusiasm for the return of striker Kwame Opoku, hailing the player’s professionalism and goal-scoring instincts.

Opoku rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on a two-and-a-half-year deal after stints with Olympique Khouribga in Morocco and USM Alger in Algeria.

Dr. Ogum made these remarks during a press conference ahead of the much-anticipated Super Clash against rivals Hearts of Oak, scheduled for Sunday, December 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium. The match is seen as a critical moment for both teams in the Ghana Premier League campaign.

“He’s a fine striker, a fine player. I admire his level of professionalism, and he’s happy to be back at the club to contribute his quota,” Dr. Ogum said. “We know he has an eye for goal, and that’s exactly why we’ve brought him on board.”

Opoku made a significant impact during his first stint with Kotoko, scoring seven goals in 16 league matches before his move abroad. While in North Africa, he recorded five goals and six assists in 33 appearances in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, further showcasing his attacking prowess.

Dr. Ogum emphasized the need to provide the 27-year-old striker with the right support to regain top form. “We only have to support him and let him believe that he is a quality player. That’s why we’ve brought him back. As a coach, I’m happy to have him in the team,” he added.

Kotoko enters the Super Clash with high stakes, aiming to leapfrog Hearts of Oak, who sit just one point ahead in the league standings. The game promises to be a fiercely contested encounter, with both teams vying for dominance in what is regarded as Ghana’s biggest football rivalry.

The return of Kwame Opoku is expected to bolster Kotoko’s attack as they look to secure all three points in this pivotal fixture.
