Kwesi Appiah, Head Coach of the Sudan national team, has announced that he will not be bringing any Sudanese players to Ghana in the future.

Appiah’s comments follow the controversial incident involving two Sudanese players, AbdoelKarem Yagoub and Esmat Abdulhamid, who were part of the Sudanese national team during a friendly match against DC United in the USA on October 12. The players reportedly absconded from the team’s hotel after being denied permission to leave to exchange money. CCTV footage later revealed that the players had sneaked out, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Reflecting on the incident, Appiah, who also holds the position of Head of Sporting Affairs at Asante Kotoko, expressed his disappointment and frustration. He emphasized that, due to the actions of the two players, he has decided not to bring any more Sudanese players to Ghana.

“The truth is, because of the two players who ran away from the Asante Kotoko camp, I am not willing to bring any Sudanese players to Ghana,” Appiah said in an interview with Asempa FM. However, Appiah did reveal that Sudan’s captain, Ramadan Agab, has expressed a desire to one day play for Asante Kotoko.

“The Sudan captain has expressed his wish to play for Asante Kotoko one day, but for now, I am not interested in bringing any Sudanese player to Ghana,” he added.

Yagoub and Abdulhamid were part of the 12 Sudanese players signed by Asante Kotoko after the club parted ways with over 21 players last summer.
