Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been crowned African Player of the Year at the prestigious 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, held in Marrakech, Morocco.
The awards ceremony, which celebrated the continent’s finest football talents, saw Lookman recognized for his outstanding performances across the year.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Serie A, enjoyed a sensational season, showcasing his remarkable skill, blistering pace, and clinical finishing. His contributions were pivotal in both Atalanta’s success in Serie A and Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His standout performances included key goals in the UEFA Europa League, where he made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a final, leading Atalanta to a stunning 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
This victory also ended Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. His consistency and impact in domestic competitions further solidified his place as one of Africa’s brightest stars.
Lookman triumphed over a competitive field of nominees, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams to secure the prestigious award. Lookman was also ranked 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or standings.
In his acceptance speech, Lookman dedicated the award to his teammates, family, and the fans who have supported him throughout his career. Other Award Winners:-
