Ghanaian legend, Mohammed Polo has hailed Stephen Appiah for his good leadership during his time as the captain of the Black Stars, picking him over Abedi Ayew Pele.
The dribbling magician believes Appiah remains one of the best leaders to have put on the arm band as Ghana’s captain.
According to Polo, the former Fernabache midfielder, who led the team as the captain between 2005 and 2010 was able to manage his captaincy well than the Maestro Abedi Pele.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Mothers FM/Tv, the former AFCON winner said, “Frankly speaking, Abedi Pele was a leader during his time but unfortunately, he was not able to manage his leadership well and that is why he had an issue with Tony Yeboah. We should have won the AFCON with that team for the fifth time. For his captaincy, there was a problem, which affected the team.
“But Stephen Appiah was able to manage his captaincy well. Although there were some egos in their team but I still don’t know why their squad failed to win the AFCON when we hosted it in 2008. It was an opportunity for us to win, but it is very unfortunate. Both of them were not able to win a trophy, but Stephen Appiah was better in terms captaincy,” Polo stated.
