Ghana’s former coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has achieved a remarkable feat by leading the Sudan national team to qualify for the AFCON 2025 in Morocco and the CHAN tournament.
This is Sudan’s first AFCON qualification since 2012, and it’s a testament to Appiah’s dedication and hard work.
The Sudan national team on Sunday released a statement to acknowledge the good work of the technical team led by Kwasi Appiah. The team’s statement reads:
“Our national team achieves qualification for the finals of CHAN twice in Algeria in 2023 and Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya 2025.
Kwesi Appiah is the first coach to lead Sudan to the final of two continental championships in the same year [CAN and CHAN]”
Ramadan Ajab is the first captain of the A1-jidjan Falcons to lead the team to the finals of two continental championship in the same year.
A portion of the statement also clears that A1-Gharbal is the first player to score in three qualifiers in the same year, CHAN and CAN, and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Appiah, who took charge of Sudan’s national team in September 2023, has assembled a competitive squad. Despite facing challenges, including a complex political environment, Appiah’s team has shown resilience and determination for Qualifying to Afcon and CHAN respectively.
During the CHAN qualifiers, Sudan played thrilling matches, including a 2-1 win over Ethiopia, a 1-1 draw against Uganda, and a convincing 3-0 victory over Tanzania. These results showcased the team’s determination and Appiah’s tactical prowess.
Musa Kante is the youngest player to score in two consecutive matches [Ethiopia] in the history of Sudan in CHAN.
The CHAN 2025 tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from June 6 to June 28, 2025, providing an exciting opportunity for Sudan’s local team to compete against the best African teams.
