Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed his disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of abandoning him during his protracted legal struggles following the “#Number 12” exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
In an interview with Hot FM, Nyantakyi criticized the NPP for failing to stand by him as he faced corruption allegations, which he maintains are unfounded.
“I haven’t spent any government money, I haven’t killed anybody, but I’m still in court,” he said, highlighting the emotional and financial toll of his five-year legal battle.
Nyantakyi revealed that his legal team had advised him to distance himself from the party, particularly during his bid for the NPP parliamentary primaries in Ejisu. “Even during my prime time to contest the seat, it was an issue within the party.
I thought that if I contested, they would have canceled the court case,” he explained. Despite his efforts, Nyantakyi managed only 35 votes in the primaries, casting doubt on his future political ambitions.
The former GFA president also pointed to ongoing debates surrounding the potential unmasking of Anas during court proceedings, which could further complicate his case.
For now, Nyantakyi remains focused on clearing his name while grappling with the uncertainties surrounding both his legal and political aspirations.
