Gor Mahia midfielder Enoch Morrison has expressed concern over the exploitation of Ghanaian footballers by unscrupulous agents, urging players to be cautious when considering moves abroad. Speaking about the issue with Ghanasportspage.com.
Morrison highlighted the challenges some players face after being misled by agents, often leaving them stranded in foreign countries without support. “I can’t say anything to the agents because they will continue to do what they do, but I can speak to the players.
We need to educate footballers about these situations,” Morrison told Ghanasportspage.com. He painted a stark picture of the difficulties players encounter, sharing, “Sometimes, you wake up in the morning, and someone is already at your door asking for help to pay rent.
Unlike Ghana, where rent is paid two years in advance, here, it’s monthly. Why would you leave everything in Ghana for such hardships?”
Morrison advised players to thoroughly vet agents and ensure they have enough funds to cover their return journey if things don’t work out.
“If an agent asks you to go for a visa in Ethiopia or Kenya, make sure you have enough money to get back home in case the visa isn’t granted. Too many players get stranded in these situations,” he explained.
He also discouraged moves to certain leagues, saying, “Apart from the club I play for, which I know is a big club, I wouldn’t advise any Ghanaian player to come here and play for other teams. Even in the Premier League here, many clubs won’t pay you.”
Morrison concluded with a plea to players: “I understand we all want to succeed, but be vigilant and mindful when traveling. Don’t let desperation lead you into trouble.”
