Asante Kotoko call on GPL clubs to join fight against Hooliganism after Pooley’s death

Asante Kotoko has taken a strong stance against violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness in Ghanaian football, urging all clubs to join forces in eliminating these threats to the integrity of Ghana football.

Their club’s call follows the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

In a statement addressing recent incidents, the Porcupine Warriors emphasized that football should unite rather than divide, calling on their fiercest rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, and other clubs to rally behind efforts to secure the future of Ghana’s domestic league.

“It is time to end the cycle of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness that threatens the integrity of our game. We call on all clubs to support this cause, especially our greatest rivals on the pitch, Accra Hearts of Oak, because this is bigger than the competition—it is about securing the future of our domestic league once and for all.”

Pooley, a dedicated Kotoko supporter, tragically lost his life during violent scenes at Nana Koramansah Park, sparking outrage among fans and football stakeholders. Kotoko has since withdrawn from the Ghana Premier League until justice is served and concrete measures are put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Since the tragic news, many clubs in the league including Hearts fo Oak, Legon Cities, and Medeama have all released statements condemning the act.
