Asante Kotoko have declared their intention to officially report Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) following concerns over her handling of investigations into the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley.
The club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, expressed dissatisfaction with DCOP Donkor’s role in the case, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to remove her from the investigation.
“We will officially report Lydia Donkor to the IGP, and we want the GFA to remove her from the case because she was appointed by you people,” Nana Apinkra stated during an Asante Kotoko Executive meeting.
Kotoko’s frustrations stem from recent comments made by DCOP Donkor, suggesting that Pooley’s death did not occur at the stadium. These remarks have sparked outrage among the club’s supporters, with many calling for a more transparent and unbiased investigation.
DCOP Donkor, in an interview with JoySports, insisted that the tragic incident did not occur inside the stadium, adding that Pooley was rather brought to the stadium after being stabbed.
“This unfortunate incident [the fan’s stabbing] didn’t happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked up by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium,” she told JoySports.
