A total of seventeen (17) Ghana Premier League clubs, including Accra Hearts of Oak, have called for the immediate resumption of the league, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to protect their investments. This comes in response to Asante Kotoko’s stance on halting football activities following the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong (Pooley).
According to GHANAsoccernet.com, the majority of clubs believe that suspending the league indefinitely would be detrimental to the growth of Ghanaian football and could lead to significant financial losses for clubs, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
The pressure from these clubs directly challenges Asante Kotoko’s position, as the Kumasi-based club has vowed not to return to the pitch until justice is served and adequate security measures are implemented at match venues.
While Kotoko insists on reforms to curb hooliganism and violence, other clubs argue that the league must continue alongside efforts to improve safety protocols.
The GFA now faces a crucial decision on whether to resume the league or continue discussions with all stakeholders to find a middle ground.
