Sports Minister Kofi Adams has expressed strong reservations about the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to retain Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, despite dismissing the entire backroom staff.
Speaking to Metro TV, Adams pointed to poor statistical data as a major concern, arguing that by the numbers alone, Addo should not have been kept.
“The data is very poor—terrible. If we were looking at just the data, there’s no way this decision would have been made. That’s why the GFA chose to remove the entire backroom staff,” Adams stated.
“It was surprising, however, that the head coach was retained while the rest were let go. Looking at the numbers alone, it’s a clear no.”
Meanwhile, according to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Oduro Sarfo, the FA is committed to long-term planning and will not rush to appoint a new coach just months before crucial international competitions.
“We gave this young man [Otto Addo] a job for AFCON and the World Cup. Now, who should come in and continue? How many months are left? Should we bring in a new coach who doesn’t know the players? That’s what we keep doing, and it’s why we aren’t getting results,” Sarfo stated.
Otto Addo’s future as the Black Stars’ coach has been a subject of debate after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
