Ghana Premier League side Bechem United FC have offered a GHC 100,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for the murder of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The club via a statement released on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, announced the huge cash reward while taking a strong stand against hooliganism in Ghana football.
“The management of Bechem United FC, led by Dr. Kingsley Owusu Achau, has placed a GHC 100,000 reward for anyone with credible information leading to the arrest of the suspect,” the club stated.
Bechem United’s gesture underscores the urgent need to combat violence in Ghanaian football and ensure that perpetrators of such acts are brought to book. The club has urged the public and relevant authorities to assist in identifying the suspect and ensuring justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has made several arrests in connection with the incident, but the prime suspect remains at large. With the league currently on hold due to the ongoing investigation, football stakeholders continue to call for reforms to enhance safety and curb hooliganism in the sport.
Bechem also announced the instalment of CCTV cameras at the Nana Gyeabour Park to boost security, adding that culprits if hooliganism at the venue will be handed a lifetime ban.
“As part of our commitment to ensuring safety and order, we have immediately engaged an expert to install CCTV cameras at our stadium to monitor and deter any acts of violence. Furthermore, we have sent a stern warning to our supporters that any act of hooliganism will result in a lifetime ban from attending our matches.”
