Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew is set to be named the substantive captain of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, according to a report by Joy Sports.
The 32-year-old has been a key figure in the national team for over a decade, making significant contributions at multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments and World Cup campaigns.
Jordan Ayew, if confirmed, will succeed his brother Andre Ayew for the role while overtaking first deputy Thomas Partey. The reports suggest that Partey has now stepped down from the first deputy role.
Partey’s decline has reportedly led to the appointment of Alexander Djiku as the first deputy.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) are yet to officially confirm the appointment, but if finalized, Ayew will be tasked with guiding the team as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualification campaigns.
