Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has handed a first-team call-up to 17-year-old striker Isaka Abdul ahead of the club’s Ghana Premier League clash against Legon Cities on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The young forward has been in exceptional form, netting 12 goals and providing four assists in the Ashanti Regional Division Three League. His playing style, which combines deep-lying movement with instinctive finishing, has drawn comparisons to former Kotoko star Frank Mbella Etouga.
Speaking about the teenager’s promotion, Ogum expressed confidence in his potential while emphasizing the club’s commitment to youth development.
“I know how much this opportunity means to the young man,” Ogum told scasantekotoko.com.
“Isaka has proven to be a very talented footballer with the determination to succeed. Fortunately for him, as coaches, we are always ready to provide the right guidance to aid his development. But credit must go to the Youth Team coaches, who have done an incredible job. This opportunity is not to put pressure on him but to help him understand what it means to play for Kotoko.”
Isaka becomes the fifth youth player to break into Ogum’s matchday squad this season, joining Jordan Amissah, Vitus Avoka, Godfred Kodua, and Solomon Kwaku Sah.
Kotoko, currently second in the league standings, are level on points with leaders Bibiani Goldstars but trail on goal difference. A victory on Sunday would propel them back to the top as they continue their title charge.
Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM at the Baba Yara Stadium.
