Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has explained his decision to start Benjamin Asare in goal, citing his impressive performance during training.
The experienced shot-stopper got the nod ahead of his competition following a tight battle for the starting spot in the Black Stars’ win over Chad.
According to Otto Addo, all three goalkeepers showcased great abilities in training, but Asare had a slight edge.
“He did well in training. It was a close race, and both goalkeepers performed admirably. However, Benjamin did a bit better, which is why he got the starting role,” Addo stated.
Benjamin Asare marked his Black Stars debut with a clean sheet as Ghana beat Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 32-year-old was not tested significantly but showed good signs, whenever he was involved.
