Former Hearts of Oak sensation, Torric Jebrin, has opened up about how not adjusting his age at the beginning of his journey has been a key regret that he believes has hampered his football career.
Speaking in an interview with Gil Media, the 32-year-old winger admitted that while he still feels fit and eager to continue playing, the age on his documents does not reflect his physical ability, and has likely limited his opportunities in recent years.
“I’m still playing and I want to continue for the next two to three years,” Jibrin stated. “But the issue is my age. I didn’t work on the age at the beginning. If I mention my age and you see me playing, you’d think I’m 22.”
Jibrin, who burst onto the Ghanaian football scene as a teenage prodigy at Hearts of Oak, lamented the lack of proper guidance and professional management at the early stages of his career.
“I didn’t get the support or management that could manage my things well,” he added, suggesting that with better mentorship, his career trajectory might have been different.
Torric Jibrin, despite the age-related challenges, has enjoyed a globe-trotting football career, playing in countries including Turkey, DR Congo, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Egypt, and the Maldives. He remains hopeful of extending his playing days before hanging up his boots.
