Former Hearts of Oak player Don Boartey has delivered a stinging assessment of the club’s recent struggles, saying the once-feared Ghanaian giants have lost their status in local and continental football.
Speaking on Original TV, Boartey did not hold back in his criticism.
“Hearts of Oak has lost its relevance. During our time, the team was winning trophies, competing in Africa, and feared across the continent. Now, things have changed drastically. The club is no longer winning trophies and has lost the dominance it once had.”
Hearts of Oak, who have faced inconsistent form this season, are battling to finish strong in the Ghana Premier League and have fallen short in continental competitions in recent years.
Boartey’s comments echo growing concerns from fans and ex-players alike over the direction and leadership of the club.
Calls for restructuring and long-term planning have intensified as the Phobians seek to reclaim their historic place among Africa’s football elite.
