The camp of former Asante Kotoko Francis Andy Kumi is seeking clarification from GPL giants, Medeama Sporting Club over reports that the player’s contract will be terminated after the season.
As reported by Ghanasoccernet.com, the one-time GPL winners are planning to part ways with the former Kotoku Royals striker due to his poor performance in the ongoing campaign.
The report further states that this decision signals the club’s intent to restructure and build a more competitive squad for the 2025/26 season under newly-appointed coach Ibrahim Tanko.
Reacting to the news, the player’s management disclosed that they are yet to receive official communication from the club, revealing that the player himself is not happy at the club due to lack of playing time.
“We heard a news concerning the player’s future at Medeama SC. They are attributing it to poor performance, which isn’t true.
“There is a lot going on at Medeama, and one is favoritism. Kumi was happy to play and give out his best to the club following his arrival, but he wasn’t given the opportunity during Coach Adotey’s time due to favoritism coming from the management.
“The same thing is happening under Coach Ibrahim Tanko. Per our investigation, Coach Tanko was ready to use Kumi, but some leaders of the club pushed against his decision,” said the management.
However, Andy Kumi has written to enquire from the club as to whether they are behind the article or intend to lay him off after the season.
He further urged the club to approach the portal to retract the inaccurate claims, stating that the article is not only misleading but also damaging his reputation.
The letter reads: “I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to address a recent article published by a blogger claiming that the club intends to lay me off due to perceived underperformance. I believe this statement is not only misleading but also damaging to my reputation and standing within the team.
“First and foremost, I kindly request that the management approaches the blogger to retract the inaccurate claims made in the article. The assertion that my performance has fallen below team standards is unfounded, and it is essential for both my personal integrity and the club’s image that this misinformation is corrected.
“Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to the team and my dedication to playing for the team at all times when given the opportunity. It is my belief that any concerns regarding my play would be better addressed through direct dialogue. Open communication channels between myself and management are vital for fostering a supportive and productive environment.
Lastly, I would appreciate your support in ensuring that any future discussions about my performance and any other issues are conducted privately and respectfully. In this way, we can maintain a positive atmosphere within the club while allowing for constructive feedback.
“Thank you for considering my requests. I am hopeful for a positive resolution and look forward to your response.”

The 26-year-old still has a contract for another year and would like to pledge himself to the club for years to come.
Yet, he is becoming increasingly anxious about his future, especially with circulating rumors.
