The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has ruled in favor of Basake Holy Stars in the much-anticipated protest case involving Nations FC.
The case, which stemmed from Matchday 33 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, revolved around the abrupt end to the fixture between the two clubs at the Ampain AAK Soccer Arena.
Key Decisions from the Committee:
Basake Holy Stars’ Protest Upheld
The committee ruled that Basake Holy Stars’ protest was valid and successful.
Nations FC Protest Dismissed
The cross-protest filed by Nations FC was dismissed in its entirety.
Forfeiture of Match by Nations FC
Nations FC was found responsible for actions that led to the premature end of the game.
Consequently, per Article 33(1)(b) of the Premier League Regulations, the club has forfeited the match.
Awarding of Points and Goals
In line with Articles 33(2) and 34(12), Basake Holy Stars have been awarded three points and three goals for the forfeited match.
Points Deduction
As further punishment for misconduct, Nations FC will lose an additional three (3) points from their accumulated tally in previous matches, per Article 33(5)(a).
Financial Penalty
Nations FC has been fined GHC 2,500. Half of the amount (GHC 1,250) will be awarded to Basake Holy Stars, with the remainder going to the GFA.
Investigation Ordered
The GFA Prosecutor has been tasked to investigate the incident further, including reports from match officials, and take action against any individuals found culpable.
Meanwhile, Nations FC have acknowledged the ruling and decided against applying for an appeal.
“We acknowledge the Disciplinary Committee’s decision, albeit with disappointment. While we disagree with key aspects of the ruling, we have chosen not to pursue an appeal,” the club stated on social media.
The verdict confirms Bibiani Gold Stars as winners of the 24/25 GPL, beating second place Nations FC by three points.
