2024/25 Ghana FA Cup champions Asante Kotoko have officially parted ways with nine players following the conclusion of the 2024/25 football season, signaling the beginning of a massive squad overhaul ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Among the most notable departures is club captain Justice Blay, whose contract expired at the end of the season.

Once a fan favorite and engine in midfield, Blay’s time at the club ends under a cloud, with reports suggesting disciplinary issues played a key role in the decision not to offer a contract extension.

Despite his leadership on the pitch, the Porcupine Warriors are moving in a different direction.

The club has officially announced the departure of former WAFA midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena after completing his three-year stint with the Kumasi-based club. Known for his tireless work rate and consistent presence in the midfield, Dwamena now becomes a free agent, drawing interest from several local clubs.

The team captain Frederick Asare has also left the camp of Asante Kotoko. The club announced his departure after unsuccessfull contract renewal and thanked him for his services since joining the club.

Nigerian striker Fernando Wisdom Bassey, who joined Kotoko from Sporting Lagos in August 2024, has also been released.

Despite going through pre-season with the squad and making 16 league appearances, he found the net only once.

His underwhelming form failed to meet expectations, prompting the club to end ties just a year into his arrival.

Also shown the exit door are Daniel Adrian Adjetey, Kwasi Asante, Samuel Tenadu, and Sampson Eduku all of whom joined during the second half of the season.

The quartet struggled to make a meaningful impact, and the technical team has declared them surplus to requirements.

These decisions, according to sources close to the club, are part of a broader restructuring project aimed at building a more competitive team ahead of the 2025/26 season, where Kotoko will be Ghana’s sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup.

In the transfer market, the Porcupine Warriors are reportedly in advanced discussions with Hubert Gyau, Zakaria Fuseini, Francis Acquah, and other prospects as they look to strengthen key departments on the field.

Asante Kotoko lifted their 11th FA Cup title after a hard-fought win over Golden Kick SC, to book them ticket for CAF Confederation Cup competition ticket.

Below is the full list of Kotoko’s offloaded players:

  1. Justice Blay
  2. Frederick Asare
  3. Fernando Wisdom Bassey,
  4. Michael Kyei Dwamena
  5. Daniel Adrian Adjetey
  6. Kwasi Asante
  7. Samuel Tenadu
  8. Sampson Eduku
  9. Mintah Isaac
