Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has emphasized the importance of finishing strong as Ghana prepares to face South Africa in the third-place playoff of the 2025 WAFCON on Friday, July 25.
Speaking ahead of the crucial tie, Björkegren reflected on the broader ambition of the team beyond the tournament.
“The journey to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil starts now, and finishing strongly is a pivotal statement,” he said, as quoted on the Ghana Football Association’s website.
Despite falling short in the semifinals, the Swedish tactician believes that consistency at this level will eventually yield titles.
“If you consistently place in the top four, you will eventually win the tournament,” he added.
The clash between Ghana and South Africa promises to be a fiercely contested fixture, as both nations aim to conclude their WAFCON campaigns on a positive note and build momentum heading into the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification cycle.
The match is set to take place at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
