Kwara United team manager has shared his thoughts on the club’s upcoming CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
The technical staff is hopeful that his side will eliminate Kotoko despite admitting they are at level of Asante Kotoko.
Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, he acknowledged the pedigree of the Porcupines but insisted his side will not be intimidated.
“We are preparing just like Kotoko. We are a small club. Asante Kotoko is a bigger club than Kwara United. We are trying to see what we can do,” he said.
“I’m not afraid. My team has played some of the biggest clubs in Africa. We played against RS Berkane three years ago. Football is football, irrespective of the opponent.”
The Kwara United official also drew on recent continental examples to emphasize his point:
“In the CHAN, you saw Sudan beat Nigeria 4-0. Sudan doesn’t even have a league. If Kotoko were to come to Nigeria, they would be hoping to beat Kwara United. So it’s the same mentality.”
Kotoko will host the first leg of the tie in Ghana on September 19, before traveling to Nigeria for the return fixture on September 26.
The winner over the two legs will face WAC in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.
