Accra Hearts of Oak has won the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup after beating fellow Ghana Premier League side Heart of Lions with a 2-0 victory.
After weeks of anticipation, the two Ghanaian top-flight clubs locked horns on Sunday, August 17, at the Accra Sports Stadium to battle for the trophy.
Both teams set up strongly and made their intent to win right from the start of the first half. After a series of end-to-end action, Hearts of Oak broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when new signing Frank Duku scored after he was served on a plate by Ali Mohammed.
Four minutes later, leading marksman for the Phobians, Hamza Issah, showed pace and power to score a stunning goal, doubling the lead for Hearts of Oak.
Despite a spirited effort from Heart of Lions in the second half, the team could not break down the Hearts of Oak defense. The victory means Hearts of Oak has now lifted the Homowo Charity Cup two times in a row.
Up next for Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions, both teams will turn attention to the upcoming GHALCA Top 4 tournament on 20th August 2025 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
