Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) has clarified why the club abstained from voting during the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress decision to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
Out of 124 delegates, 114 voted in favor of the amendment, six voted against, while three abstained — including Kotoko.
A close source told Ghanasportspage.com that Kotoko’s leadership viewed abstaining as the most pragmatic choice, given the overwhelming support for the proposal among other clubs.
“The decision was, voting no, would have been irrelevant because most of the clubs had decided to vote other way,” the source explained.
The IMC reportedly felt that casting a “no” vote would not change the outcome, and therefore chose neutrality rather than being seen as openly opposing the majority.
The amendment now allows a GFA president to serve up to three terms, or 12 years in office, if re-elected.
