Black Stars duo Alexander Djiku and Joseph Paintsil will miss Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad on Thursday, September 4, in N’Djamena.
I’m a statement released by the GFA’s communications, the pair, both named in Otto Addo’s 24-man squad for the two-match window, were unable to link up with the team in Accra before departure.
Paintsil’s absence was due to travel disruptions, as he missed his connecting flight from New York to Accra following a delayed departure from Los Angeles. He has since arrived in Accra this morning.
Djiku, meanwhile, is currently in Moscow finalizing a club transfer and is expected to arrive in Accra on Friday.
As a result, the Black Stars technical team will work with 22 players for the Chad fixture. Both Djiku and Paintsil, however, are expected to be available for the crucial clash against Mali in Accra on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Ghana currently leads its World Cup qualifying group with 15 points after six games, while Chad sits bottom with no points.
