Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed disappointment after Ghana stalemate with Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday.
The Central African side held the Black Stars to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno.
The result means Ghana dropped crucial points despite dominating much of the encounter.
Reacting after the game, Addo admitted his side should have been more clinical in front of goal.
“Yeah, very disappointing. Just one point for us. It’s not easy for us to play on this ground, in the heat, but we have to take it. I think we came in well to score the first goal and continued to dominate. We created a lot of chances, but we were not sharp enough to use them,” he said.
Ghana conceded from Chad’s first attempt on target — a deflected effort that found its way past goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
“Unluckily, I think the first shot from Chad, which hit the target, entered the net. It was a deflection, but this is football sometimes, you know,” Addo lamented.
“We had a lot of chances, we could have killed the game before — or we must have killed the game before — but we didn’t do it. They had one big chance and some wide shots, but other than that, there was no big chance apart from the deflection.”
Despite his frustration, Addo was gracious to the hosts.
“So yeah, it’s really, really disappointing for us. I want to congratulate Chad for getting the point, for sure,” he added.
The result keeps Ghana top of the group, but the Black Stars now face added pressure ahead of their next qualifier against Mali in Accra on Monday, September 8, 2025.
