Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw in their opening game of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium by Hohoe United.
The game at the Accra Sports Stadium saw Coach Didi Dramani’s side fail to claim the first maximum three points of the season against the debutants.
Hearts, who came in as the champions of the Homowo Cup, looked strong for much of the opening period but struggled to break the backline of the visitors.
However, Hohoe United came close to a 25th minute opener through Alkassim Mohammed’s powerful shot but Asare reacted brilliantly to tip it over for a corner.
Both teams failed to register the opening goal of the season, which led to a goalless draw in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Rainbows upped the pressure on their opponents but the story remained the same as they failed to capitalize on Solomon Adomako’s red card to steal the show.
In spite of the red card, the debutants demonstrated a great performance in their first-ever top-flight fixture but found it difficult to create many clear-cut openings, missing the chance to inflict a historic defeat on the Phobians.
But in truth, based on the abysmal lack of quality seen in the final third in this game, anything other than a goalless draw would have been flattering to the attack of the winning side.

The results means Hearts of Oak are winless in their last five league openers, having lost three with two draws.
Coach Didi Dramani will be hoping to claim his first league win the Phobians when they visit Dreams FC on matchday 2.
