Ghanaian-born striker Jordan Mintah, who recently switched nationality to represent Malaysia, has called on Ghanaian coaches to broaden their scouting horizons and take Asian football more seriously.
The 30-year-old Kuching City FC forward believes that while European leagues attract the bulk of attention, Asia also offers opportunities and quality talent that often go unnoticed.
“The coaches shouldn’t focus on Europe, there are a lot of talents in Asia,” Mintah told Ghanasportspage.
He criticized the tendency of some Ghanaian coaches to look down on leagues like Malaysia’s, stressing that surviving and thriving there requires real quality.
“Sometimes the coaches don’t respect the Malaysian league, but a lot of Ghanaian players come here and they fail. Even [Richmond] Boakye-Yiadom (former Black Stars player) played here some time back and he didn’t have it easy. To be a foreigner, and a black player for that matter, to play football here for more than five years is not easy,” Mintah explained.
Mintah, who has played in Malaysia since 2020, recently naturalized for the Asian country and has expressed his commitment to representing them at international level.
