Asante Kotoko have disclosed that the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of supporter Nana Frimpong, popularly known as “Pooley”, is taking longer than expected because of the country’s slow judicial process.
Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, stressed that the delays are not the fault of any of the parties involved but rather the structure of Ghana’s legal system.
“The matter is pending in court, it is for the state [because] this is a criminal matter,” Duku told JoySports.
“Last Wednesday, we were in court and the matter was adjourned to the 9th of October. All that we are waiting for is for the processes to be sped up. You cannot put any blame on anybody because of the nature of our judicial system. It has always been slow.”
The tragic incident, which occurred last season, forced the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to suspend the Premier League for a month to allow consultations on improved safety and security measures at league venues.
